While violets were Isabella Stewart Gardner's favorite flowers, peonies must have been a close runner-up. Her enthusiasm for peonies informed the artists she patronized. Wilton Lockwood cultivated peonies on Cape Cod, and his paintings of the flowers became his most popular subject. Isabella purchased this painting in 1914 at a Boston art gallery, and it was later exhibited at the Worcester Art Museum, along with 27 other Lockwood paintings (12 entitled Peonies). In Massachusetts, peonies typically bloom in June. Thanks to this purchase, Isabella enjoyed peonies year-round.
Infused with the delicate, citrusy aroma of orange blossom, this single-wick candle is crafted in France using pure, clean-burning vegetable soy wax to ensure a consistent and long-lasting flame. Presented in a decorative tin adorned with a detail from Wilton Lockwood's Peonies, it’s as beautiful as it is fragrant. The candle is perfect for gifting, traveling, or keeping, and it brings a touch of art and timeless fragrance into any space.
