Large Busisi Sisal Basket

Eve and Nico Gifts and Home Décor encourages the ongoing empowerment of African indigenous women by creating diverse markets for their goods.

Using ancient Swazi weaving techniques along with contemporary indigenous designs, women artisans of South Africa create brilliantly hued, meticulously woven baskets out of sisal. Sisal, a plant in the agave family, is a weed that grows throughout Swaziland. Because it is invasive, sisal is ideal for craft production as the harvesting does not threaten the country’s natural biodiversity.

Over 700 women supplement their income by performing different aspects of the creative process including preparing raw sisal and dying it. Each step in production is performed by hand.

In addition to making a beautiful table display or fruit holder, the Busisi Sisal Basket can also be hung as art. The Busisi Sisal Basket comes with a string attached to the back so that the basket can be displayed on walls.

Basket measures approximately 12 inches
