Halloween

As Halloween this way comes, Gift at the Gardner has conjured up a collection of curios to celebrate the spooky season!

Isabella Stewart Gardner was fascinated with spiritualism, Gothic aesthetics and literature, and the afterlife. She was a member of William James's American Society for Psychical Research–an organization dedicated to the study and understanding of parapsychology–from 1886-1890. Mrs. Gardner corresponded with Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, and included an edition of Edgar Allen Poe's Raven in her collection. She even dabbled in palmistry and fortune telling.
