Within her collection, Isabella Stewart Gardner has two works featuring Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France. The first—and earliest, completed in 1786—is by Jean-Baptiste Isbay, and features the young princess. It can be found in the Little Salon. The second work was completed by François Bonneville in 1796 and can be found in the Long Gallery.
This ornament of Marie Antoinette demonstrates the Queen's famous extravagance. She is resplendent in strings of pearls, much like Mrs. Gardner!
